How can I find out how often a given article has been cited?
Thank you for contacting us with this cited reference search question. To find out how often an article has been cited, you will want to elect to do a "cited reference search" in the Web of Science (ISI) database. You can easily access the Web of Science resource from the top left corner (Quick Resources) of the HSL web page (http://hsl.lib.unc.edu/). The direct link to the resource is:
Once in Web of Science, select the tab/link for "Cited Reference Search" and enter the requested information for the article you are seeking the "times cited" information for. Results retrieved will show the number of "citing articles" in the summary display for your article. If you click through to the full record for your article, you'll also see this number listed as "Times Cited" under the Source field. Web of Science's help documentation give some information on how they count citing articles here: http://images.isiknowledge.com/WOKRS410B4/help/WOS/hcr_times_cited.html
