How do I access journal articles without having to pay the fee? Can I get them for free at UNC?

Here's how you can get articles with UNC's subscription.

1. Start off at the HSL homepage and enter databases through our links (even for Google Scholar!).  Log in with your ONYEN if required.

2. When you do so, you will see a Find@UNC button associated with each article.  Click the button to see if we have electronic access to the article.  In most cases, we do have access!  If you don't see the Find@UNC button, you can paste a link to the journal article into the UNC Link Builder to connect to UNC's subscriptions.

3. If you see a message that says "Sorry, we don't have the article electronically", scroll down on the page to step 2- Request it from another library via Interlibrary Loan (ILL).  Click the link

4.  You'll need to register the first time you log into our ILL system, but if you click the Step 2 link again after registering, it will fill out the article request form for you.  Then you'll get an email in usually 2-3 days with a link to log in and download the PDF.

5.  If you get any error messages, contact us through our Ask Us email and let us know!
